The Fringe Pop is an indie rock/pop quartet formed by BITS, Pilani students in 2006. The band consists of Shreyas Kendurkar (vocals, guitars), Ankeet Bhat (vocals, guitars) Aaron Marcus (bass, vocals) and Caleb Prabhakar (drums, vocals). The band was formed by Caleb and Nishant at their college's music club. They have opened for Simple Plan as the winners of Livewire, Mood Indigo. They have played at BITS Pilani's cultural fest in the rock competition, placed second at Campus Rock Idols in Chandigarh and have also played at the Hornbill Festival in Nagaland. They've released one full-length album, Rockstar. The band is quite influenced by The Arctic Monkeys.
VERSES is a premier among trailblazing melodic death bands in India. Their formative influences are Dark Tranquility, Dimmu Borgir, Inflames, Arch Enemy and such others. Endorsed by Flying Machine for an year (2010-2011), they have a long list of performances at big stages. Apart from opening at the Octoberfest 2010, they finished as runners-up in the band-hunt to open for Metallica and have also opened for Karnivool as the winners of Livewire, Mood Indigo. They have supported international acts such as Lacuna Coil, Cypher 16, Fractalline and have regularly won both critical and popular acclaim, for their individual performances also.
Parikrama is a Rock and Roll band from Delhi, India. They have several live performances and original numbers to their name. Their first concert was at Father Agnel School, New Delhi, called " Bandstand" , on 15th September 1991. After that they performed at Livewire at Mood Indigo, IIT Bombay and won the competition and now they have more than 3000 performances, around the country as well as around the world under their belt. On December 18, 2005, Parikrama performed with Saif Ali Khan at the Royal Stag Corporate Carnival, Delhi. Parikrama performed at Download Festival in Donington in 2007 on the same day as a warm up to Iron Maiden. They also have opened for The Porcupine Tree at Mood Indigo, IIT Bombay in 2009.
Goddess Gagged is a Progressive Post-Hardcore band from Mumbai. They are primarily a
three piece showcase of Bombay’s youngest rock talent and now a full
fledged five piece behemoth. Breathing in influences from all cross-
sections of nineties rock / metal following up to present day
progressive kings like Karnivool and Porcupine Tree, these five
fantasists find cohesion within layers of intricate guitar work,
crushing rythyms, solid basslines and moody atmospherics worthy of the
darkest nights of solitude.
Pentagram is a four piece Indian rock/electronica band started in 1994 in Mumbai, India. Regarded as one of the pioneers of original Indian independent music, the band has received major recognition within the country as well as around the world. Pentagram received their initial recognition and fame by winning three major rock competitions at IIT Kanpur, IIT Delhi and IIT Bombay. Of these, Livewire (the annual band competition at IIT Bombay) landed them a record deal. Pentagram won MTV India's Artist of the Month award in 1997 and also won the Channel V awards for Best Live Band and Best Indian Band in 1997 and 1998. Pentagram have had a brief touring history outside India; at the Sundance Music Festival in Estonia in 2003 and at the Glastonbury Music Festival in 2005.
Something Relevant or STR is an Indie Band from Mumbai, formed in 2003. As the finalists of Livewire, Mood Indigo, IIT Bombay STR quickly became a popular festival band in India and abroad, playing at prestigious festivals like The Edinburgh Festival Fringe and the Java Jazz Festival. In 2010, Something Relevant toured across India and Indonesia. The band also did a two month tour of the UK, playing for a month at The Edinburgh Festival Fringe and then at clubs and colleges in London, including a special gig at the famous Ronnie Scott’s Bar. In early 2012, STR paid a hugely successful visit to Bangladesh playing eight concerts with the Manila Symphony Orchestra, filling packed ballrooms each night with college students. Their songs are distinctly original, engaging and refuse to be slotted into categories.
Demonic Resurrection are a blackened death metal band from Mumbai,
India formed in the year 2000. Their current line-up consists of Sahil
"The Demonstealer" Makhija on vocals and rhythm guitars, Daniel Rego on
lead guitars, Ashwin Shriyan on bass, Virendra ""Viru"" Kaith on drums and
Mephisto on keyboards. Since its formation, the band has released 3 studio albums and 1 EP.
The band has enjoyed National TV (India) airing of their video The Unrelenting Surge of Vengeance.
Slain is a Progressive Rock band from Bangalore, formed in 2006. Motherjane is a Rock band from Cochin, India formed in 1996. Motherjane is one of the few Indian rock bands to have their music played on American, Japanese and Mexican radio stations and has a cult following all around India. Rock Street Journal has named Motherjane Artist of the Decade. Motherjane has also been honoured with the Best Indie Rock Band in Asia at AVIMA 2009 and at AVIMA 2010 Best Rock Vocalist and Most Popular Act in Asia. Rolling Stone Magazine names their album Maktub as Album of the Year 2009. Their performances include the one which won at Livewire at Mood Indigo, IIT Bombay. In 2008, Motherjane opened for Megadeth and Machine Head in Rock in India 2008, Bangalore and for Opeth in Saarang '08 at IIT Madras.
Zygnema is a Thrash Metal band from Mumbai, formed in August 2005. The band mainly focuses on the social / political “fuck-ups” and loves to dig deep down
on riffs that are heavy and groove oriented. This band is particularly known for their immensely energetic and aggressive live performances. With a list of versatile compositions from their debut album ""Born of
Unity"", the band has been on a rampage, ripping every stage they step on. They have won Livewire at Mood Indigo, IIT Bombay and have performed at may international stages. Zygnema has been featured on VH1 to nominate the names of various artists for Grammy awards in 2007 - ROLLING STONE magazine December 2009 edition in the ARTIST MUST WATCH Section - Metal Hammer March 2010 (UK edition) and MTV for various reasons.
Bhayanak Maut is an Indian metal band from Mumbai. Having been on the Indian rock scene for close to a decade, Bhayank Maut (or BM for short) as it is known as among its fans has played at college fests such as Oasis-BITS Pilani, RAIT Horizons, IIT Chennai – Saarang (Finalists), NLS Strawberry Fields Bangalore, and Goa's Waves Festival. They have won Livewire at Mood Indigo, IIT Bombay in 2005. The band performed at the Inferno Festival 2011 Oslo, Norway, where they shared the stage with big names such as Meshuggah, Napalm death, Immortal, Soilent Green, Exhumed, Today is the Day, Insense, Malevolent creation, and more.
Para Vayu, a new form that evolved from the rock band Vayu, around since 1997, has been founded by Ravi Iyer. After the release of Vayu’s album titled Wings of a Dream in June 2009, Ravi Iyer and bassist Crosby Fernandes reformed Vayu to Para Vayu, thus exploring a wide range in various genres of music. Para Vayu’s music spans over a wide range of genres including classic rock, alternative, progressive, blues, funk and jazz rock. They are highly influenced and inspired by The Pink Floyd and have done many tribute gigs for them.
Moksha is a rock group from Chennai, India. Established in November 1995, they have also played a role in establishing the genre itself in India. Moksha was also the only Asian group to perform for the Iron Maiden tribute album Children of the Damned. They followed this by being featured on a Metallica Tribute album, they had two songs listed, the first being an original composition 'Dine with the Devil' and it also featured 'The Four Horsemen' cover. Moksha lists its influences to be Iron Maiden, Metallica, Van Halen, Europe, Deep Purple, Extreme and Dream Theater among others.
Sceptre is a Thrash Metal band from Mumbai, formed in 1998. These guys have been on the local metal scene for long years now. They have been going strong ever since. Music wise Sceptre are an angry bunch and their lyrics are a dead giveaway. There's anger and there's aggression, there's rebellion and there's revolution. The versatility speaks for itself, as they have covered form Metallica to Iron Maiden, from Ozzy to Satriani. They are one of the India’s biggest metal bands, which has shaped the face of Indian metal over the years.
Zero is an Alternative Rock band from Mumbai. They are widely regarded as one of the best bands on the Indian rock music
circuit. Livewire, Mood Indigo at IIT Bombay would be a red-letter day for a
bunch of musicians who, apparently, didn’t hold themselves in too high
an esteem. So they decided to form a band called Zero and performed at
Mumbai’s premier campus festival Mood Indigo. And true to paradox, went on to
become one of the most popular live acts in Mumbai. Their popularity among collegians in India is rivalled by few. Their second album, Hook was a major hit with their fan base and was ranked as the #1 album of the decade by Indiecision.com . Hits like Lucy and PSP 12 have enthralled crowds throughout the country.
Rosemary is a is an Alternative Rock band from Mumbai. Their music is essentially modern alternative
rock within which you can see a good amount of ambient and 60’s
psychedelic influence. They’ve played at various college
competitions like IIT Kanpur, Strawberry
Fields and many more places. They have won the Mumbai festival at band stand
and BITS-Pilani fest. They were the winners at Livewire, Mood Indigo and performed in finals at Campus
Rock Idols.They have bagged the best emerging band award from
Rolling Stone at the Jack Danniel Rock Award. After having opened
for Porcupine Tree, a major international act in December 2009 at IIT
Bombay, Rosemary decided to move out of the college circuit and start
gearing up for bigger things.
AbraXas is a Melodic Death Metal band from Pune, formed in November 2008,
originally named as 'Rigor Mortis' in 2007, it has matured musically and
lyrically over a year during which the band has had its share of ups
and downs. The newly christened name, Abraxas is an Egyptian reference to God and Satan as a single
entity. Abraxas's music is a hybrid of differing genres molten
together to create a sound that is aggressive, caressing and original
at the same time. They have opened for Catatonia as the winners of Livewire, Mood Indigo.
